When you say misuse of prescription drugs, it means one may be taking a medication in a manner or dose other than what is prescribed; taking someone else’s prescription, or taking a medication to to get high also called as euphoria.
These are the most common three classes of medication which are misused:
- central nervous system [CNS] depressants ( includes tranquilizers, sedatives, and hypnotics)—it is used to treat anxiety and sleep disorders;
- stimulants—these are the most often prescribed medication to treat attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
- opioids—is usually prescribed to treat pain
